Arts Gifts At Granthams

Granthams

Anybody who dabbles in arts and crafts in Blackpool and the Fylde probably knows where Granthams is. It’s a cornucopia of lovely stuff to feed one’s creativity and if what you want is not there, it can be got in for you. The staff are lovely and are generally artists more than willing to give a handy tip. What’s not to like?

Granthams is the obvious place for gifts for the artist on your life, but why not check it out for introductory products for young people, who maybe need a bit of creative stimulation or want to trade up from poster paints? There are endless options for painting sets – acrylic, oil, pastel, watercolour – also calligraphy, felt, modelling clay, etc. The sky’s the limit. If you fancy doing a Christmas family portrait, there is a high quality framing service. If you need some instruction or hints, there is a wide range of books.

Computers can do a lot of creative things nowadays and we’re all using them right now in reading this article, but there are limits and there’s nothing quite like a high quality art material in the hand and a lovely smooth stretch of paper in front of you waiting to receive that image that’s in your head.

Tucked in on the south side of Charnley Road, the shop is perhaps not the most accessible, but neither is it on the moon being in easy walking distance of the Hounds Hill Tower Street entrance. The service 10 (Poulton – St Anne’s via Blackpool town centre) is the nearest bus service, dropping off on Coronation Street, or weave down from services dropping off on Church Street. Check out some of the quirky stores on Coronation Street. There is a small car park directly outside the store, good if you buy something heavy.

This is a local business with international ideas: 80% of the company’s business is now done over its website. The shop offers a huge range of Christmas gift ideas. As Blackpool people, we have the privilege of browsing for what we want on the site and then popping in to buy it face-to-face from real people rather than a dialogue box.

Reclaim Blackpool - Mapping Sexual Harrasment
  • I have worked in the housing and transport professions for several local authorities, specialising in policy, strategy preparation and bid writing. Having always had an interest in film, the visual arts in general, theatre, music and lterature, I thought it would be good to combine the writing experience with these interests to contribute to altBlackpool. In addition to writing, my hobbies include watercolour and pastel painting, photography, woodwork, cycling and vegetable gardening.
