Sponsored by MPs Nigel Adams and Kevin Barron and Lord Tim Clement-Jones, this is an initiative designed to further promote the UK’s deep rooted film culture and is a fine opportunity for young film makers to raise their profile. Perhaps responding to an often expressed opinion that parliamentarians are privileged and out of touch, Film the House is also pitched as a route for them to engage with their local communities, particularly the young and creative.
In these days of social media and file sharing, it’s become increasingly difficult to keep a hold on your intellectual property. It was hard enough to hold on to photographs when you had to stand in a fume filled darkroom and print them, but now! This competition is a platform for MPs to firm up intellectual property rights and help people get some benefit from their own creativity, dedication and skill.
There are four categories:
- best short film – under 16
- best short film – 16 or over
- best original film script – under 16
- best original film script – 16 or over.
The winners can look forward to a ceremony in the still magnificent House of Commons, to be held Tuesday 24 October 2017, and successful entrants might be the film makers of the future.
Entries are made first of all to your local MP, who will also do the first judging round, enabling an element of engagement with local creative communities. The two Blackpool MPs are:
- Gordon Marsden – Blackpool South – [email protected]
- Paul Maynard – Blackpool North and Cleveleys – [email protected]
If you’ve got that film short or script written and ready to go, or have that burning idea that just won’t wait, here’s your chance to get them out there. Entries must be submitted to your MP by 31 July 2017, so get your skates on.
