Rear View comes to you

‘Buses run for those who wait, they don’t wait for those who run’, as the old saying goes. You need to get your skates on however if you haven’t already got tickets for LeftCoast’s bus based theatre experience Rear View, as it starts on Thursday and finishes Saturday.

The streets of Blackpool become the stage as Yorkshire based IOU’s new location-specific production Rear takes to the road. Take a trip aboard the custom-made open top bus for an unforgettable journey that begins in a life-drawing class, and quickly becomes a moving story about a woman’s life.

Led by performance poets Cecilia Knapp and Jemima Foxtrot, Rear View brings together reflections, predictions and observations that blur the line between reality and fiction. It opened to rave reviews in May, with The Stage calling it ‘a profound, perception-altering, poetic experience’.

Michael Trainor, LeftCoast’s Artistic Director, said, “What makes this show really exciting is the use of pioneering technology where the audience wear headphones and experience the sound of the show in a whole new way. The ambient soundscape and poetic narrative are experienced through 360-degree positional sound, that really feels like it’s happening inside in your own head, different sounds will also be triggered by certain locations as they travel through the streets creating a truly unique experience.”

David Wheeler, Artistic Director at IOU says “This project has taken many years to develop and I’m really excited about seeing the tour and the different interpretations of the piece in each locale, and most importantly how audiences will engage with the work and how they respond to the unexpected and unpredictable nature of Rear View.”

Rear View runs from Thursday 14 to Saturday 15 July, and is timetabled for five journeys from The Grundy Art Gallery each day with the first starting at midday and the last at 7pm.  Each performance lasts around 75 minutes. To for more information or to book tickets go to leftcoast.org.uk.
