International Creatives Catch The Blackpool Vibe

AltBlackpool users know what a creative and culturally rich place Blackpool is and the rest of the world is catching on too. Now international creatives Jen Allen and Jay Fortune are moving their artistic and entrepreneurial operations to the resort.

Jen is recognised as one of the UK’s most exciting young fine artists. Her partner Jay is an internationally acclaimed magician, furniture designer and showbiz entrepreneur. Jen says “Having lived in London, Bournemouth, Bristol, Devon and Hertfordshire, we did an exhaustive search of the country for the most active art communities and positive-thinking councils. Blackpool came out top. We’ve been coming here for years and love the vibe, sense of creativity, enthusiasm for embracing the arts and practical business support.”

Jen’s artwork is in high demand with international collectors. One of her impressive Marilyn Monroe originals hangs in the office of a major Hollywood director at Universal Studios. Jay has built Marvin’s Magic School, the world’s largest online magic tuition school, ‘a digital Hogwarts for beginners’. He has produced shows and performed worldwide to stars of stage and screen. The couple will work with the North West International Trade Team to distribute Jen’s work and Jay’s new furniture range ‘Wundre’.

Councillor Mark Smith welcoming this talented couple to the Fylde’s capital, said: “It is always good news when talented artists and passionate business people locate in Blackpool, reinforcing a dynamic community. The council’s business support team work really hard to help both start-up and developing companies.  I wish Jen and Jay every  happiness in their new home and all the very best for their ventures both in the UK and internationally.”

“I am sure that more international creatives of this calibre will come to our fine town to live and work. With modern digital communications and up to date trains on the way, one can live by the sea and still participate in the big city. This can play a major part in regenerating Blackpool while preserving its identity and bringing prosperity.”

Blackpool Council assisted Jen and Jay with relocating to the town. To find out more about how the Council can help your business call 01253 477147 or email [email protected].

I have worked in the housing and transport professions for several local authorities, specialising in policy, strategy preparation and bid writing. Having always had an interest in film, the visual arts in general, theatre, music and lterature, I thought it would be good to combine the writing experience with these interests to contribute to altBlackpool. In addition to writing, my hobbies include watercolour and pastel painting, photography, woodwork, cycling and vegetable gardening.
