Carole King legend is ‘Beautiful’ in Blackpool

‘Tapestry’ Carole King’s luscious and mega-selling album is a firm favourite in the Simper household, so it’s with some delight that I welcome this show recounting the Carole King legend to the iconic Blackpool Opera House. King’s songs have helped me when a loved one has been So Far Away, when I’ve needed someone to say You’ve Got a Friend and I’ve wanted to be Home Again.

Long an admired song writer, King produced ‘Tapestry’ in 1971 and took the world by storm, reminding people that they are as Beautiful as they feel among many other things and establishing the Carole King legend. Now her life story is brought Britain’s best resort’s stage. Second best only to the Natural Woman herself.

A Winter Gardens spokesperson said:

We’re thrilled to welcome the critically acclaimed musical, Beautiful, to Blackpool on its first ever UK tour. The show’s iconic songs are sure to delight audiences and compliment what’s fast becoming an incredible line up of shows for 2019

The show tells the inspiring true story of King’s remarkable rise to stardom, from being part of a hit songwriting team with her husband Gerry Goffin, to her relationship with fellow writers and best friends Cynthia Weil and Barry Mann. Beautiful – the Carole King Musical will be performed at the Opera House Blackpool from Monday 18th June – Saturday 23rd June 2018 and together with King’s timeless classics will feature Cynthia Weil and Barry Mann hit songs You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling, On Broadway and We Gotta Get Out Of This Place.

Bronté Barbé will play ‘Carole King’ with Kane Oliver Parry as King’s husband and song-writing partner ‘Gerry Goffin’, Amy Ellen Richardson as song-writer ‘Cynthia Weil’, Matthew Gonsalves as song-writer ‘Barry Mann’, Carol Royle as King’s mother ‘Genie Klein’ and Adam Howden as music publisher and producer ‘Donnie Kirshner’. The show has a book by Douglas McGrath with words and music by Gerry Goffin, Carole King, Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil.

Tickets are on sale from £17.50 Way Over Yonder from wintergardensblackpool.co.uk or by phone on 0844 856 1111 or from the box office. Don’t wait until It’s Too Late.

Having always had an interest in film, the visual arts in general, theatre, music and lterature, I thought it would be good to combine the writing experience with these interests to contribute to altBlackpool. In addition to writing, my hobbies include watercolour and pastel painting, photography, woodwork, cycling and vegetable gardening.
