Trip The Light Fantastic At Half Term

The Lightpool Festival is now a firm fixture in the Blackpool October half term family activities. With just a month to go the final line up and timings has been confirmed.

On all three nights, visitors will be able to watch Spark! by Worldbeaters Music – a unique and thrilling show that combines high-impact drumming, superb choreography and stunning lighting design. This year they are collaborating with puppet company DUNDU. On the Wednesday night they will be followed by dance re-mix artist AFISHAL, with his dance re-mixes being performed on a visual DJ-rig in front of the Tower.

The Thursday night will see the first Carnival of the Lights, with Blackpool’s three illuminated trams parading in convey for the first time, with an illuminated pageant along the promenade. The battleship, trawler and Great Western train will be joined by a procession of illuminated vehicles, costume characters and the Worldbeaters drummers. The trams will leave from outside the Pleasure Beach at around 5pm and will be joined at Central Pier by the rest of the procession for what promises to be a truly magical Illuminations experience.

The final night of the festival will see the Worldbeaters drummers lead spectators from Tower Festival Headland to St John’s Square. Following this Bilbobasso who also featured last year with perform ‘Amor’, before the performance returns to the Tower Festival Headland with AFISHAL leading the festival finale.

Cllr Gillian Campbell, Deputy Leader of Blackpool Council, said: “The inaugural Festival@LightPool in 2016 delivered a stunning programme of world-class entertainment. We are delighted to be able to stage another free festival during the October half-term. The continuing support of Arts Council England and LeftCoast means we have been able to add even more talent to create what will be a breathtaking programme of live entertainment over the three days.”

This year’s Lightpool Festival is supported by Arts Council England, Left Coast and the Coasters programme which is a three year project that brings world-class circus and street arts work to coastal towns across England. It takes place from 25th to 27th October, on all three nights the festival gets underway at 5pm and finishes at around 7pm. All events are free, and on each evening after the show the Lightpool 3D projections shows will transform the Tower into a sea of light, colour and sound.
