Coming to the Grand Theatre this week, following their recent successes with Company and Urinetown, the BA (Hons) Musical Theatre students of School of Creative Arts and Digital Industries at Blackpool & The Fylde College are proudly presenting the much loved musical, Grease.
Jump into the 1950s and follow the love story between Sandy Olsson and Danny Zuko. After spending summer together Sandy has moved from Australia to the Golden state of California. Upon starting her first day at school, she finds herself joining the Pink Ladies and she is surprised to learn that Danny Zuko, leader of the T-Birds, attends the same school. What happens next is music, laughter and fun, as cliques and relationships are put to the test.
I had the pleasure of attending one of the rehearsals and had a chat to some of the cast. Frazer Mundy who will be playing the lead role of Danny Zuko told me how the role has been a challenging one due to the character being so different himself. However, after finding a duplicitous nature within the character, he has enjoyed identifying the “cheeky yet soft side”.
Director, Alison Burns, has had the challenging task of directing two casts, giving more students the opportunity to perform in a professional environment. When asked if she was excited to see the casts’ hard work come to fruition, she told me: “Like any director I am hoping that the hard work and talent of the cast transfers well into a different space. I’m feeling positive that the performers will have an excellent experience and that the audience will enjoy the show.”
This will be the last chance to see these performers before they progress from education into the professional industry, and with two different casts there’s a promise that they’ll each bring different personal touches to the production.
Featuring the show-stopping numbers Greased Lightning, Summer Nights and We Go Together, make sure you don’t miss the opportunity to see this show which promises to be Electrifying!
Grease opens Friday 16 February and runs until Saturday 17 February with matinee and evening performances on offer. Tickets start from £15.50 with concessions at £13. For more information or to book visit www.blackpoolgrand.co.uk or call the Grand Theatre box office on 01253 290190.
