This Saturday, tomorrow in fact, Stanley Park hosts the excellent Wordpool Family Day. If you have never been, this year is definitely the year to visit with the sunshine blazing down and 2018 going down in history as “that long hot summer”.

The event is so amazing and FREE, visitors to the park will need to register to take part in the days activities but once you have you are in – expect a treat. This years event is circus themed alongside Circus250 celebrations so expect Big Top Marvels and The Mayhem Schools Project, a promise of the Flying Sun Birds alongside the puppetry of Adambara and Zhim and expect to be greeted by 15ft walking trees just you know, having a stroll around Blackpool’s award winning park.
Firm favourites Aunty Social will be presenting a delightful mini cinema with promises of family short films and whimsical projections with Aunty’s Pop Up Picture Show. Do you know the SOS Vehicle, well once you have seen it you will never forget it a two tier spaceship housing this year The Nixies.

If you like a singalong the Grand Theatre Community Chorus will be in full flow (did you know singing out loud helps mental well being and is proven to cheer you up). A promise to make clown faces in the Grundy’s Big Top ahead of the new exhibition which has associated themes of circus opening at the Grundy on the 14th of July. Maybe your ambition has been to learn to unicycle or perfect your juggling skills, well Blackpool Circus School will be there to provide tips and offer encouragement, so hop on that one wheeler. Firm favourite Dan the Storyman will spin a yarn of Blackpool to the young and the young at heart with animated quips of sea monsters off the coast of Blackpool.

More of a hands on person? join in the arts and crafts with Family Learning and Seaside Stitchers or more of a watcher? Bask in the sunshine as you watch dance performances from FCYDC and Aspire Youth Dance Company. The Event is managed by the Arts Service and supported by Friends of Stanley Park, Heritage Blackpool, Left Coast, Blackpool Libraries, Parks Services, Grundy Art Gallery, Blackpool Museum, Family Learning, Seaside Stitchers, Blackpool Sixth Form College, Aunty Social and CultureBlackpool.

Arrive early for registration from 12.30pm, activities start at 1pm – 4pm. Don’t forget your sunscreen and wave for the photographer cos that is our very own Jill Reidy.
