Preview: Blackpool Roller Coasters Band Night Fundraiser

BRC FundraiserBlackpool Roller Coasters are Blackpool’s first roller derby team and this Friday they’re holding a band night fundraiser to raise money to help them bring all manner of derby goodness to Blackpool.

For those of you who haven’t heard of roller derby, it’s not all tattoos and booty shorts (though they do occasionally feature).  Roller derby arrived in the 1920‘s, evolving from marathon skating on a raised track to a more physical sport where two teams of five skaters score points by passing members of the opposing team.  Women’s flat-track roller derby has grown explosively over the past decade from only one league worldwide in 2001 to over 1100 today. It’s a fast-paced, full contact team sport that requires speed, strategy and stamina…oh and thighs of steel!

On the bill for the team’s fundraiser are local bands The Drop Out Wives, The Senton Bombs and an acoustic set from Catlow, plus if that wasn’t enough a burlesque performance from the glamorous Kitty Koko. Taking place at West Coast Rock Cafe from 8pm and with tickets only £3 in advance or £4 on the door it’s an evening not to be missed.

If you weren’t already excited enough, there is also the most amazing raffle with over 20 prizes including, a £50 voucher for Hello Sailor Tattoo Studio, four audience tickets for Countdown, artwork from local street artist Catch 22, official Blackpool Roller Coasters mechandise and much more (for the full list visit the Facebook event page).

Tickets are a mere £1 a strip, and can be purchased in advance, so if you can’t make it to the event, you can still get your mitts on some tickets.  There will also be some awesome BRC merchandise on sale, so don’t forget to bring your pennies!

If you’d like advance tickets please contact the Roller Coasters  or pay via paypal leaving your name in the comments section.

So come along and support local roller derby.
