Saturday night and what better place to be than Palatine Library with a brew, pink panther wafer, literature enthusiasts and a book called Fifty Sheds of Grey.
As the nation celebrated National Libraries Day local libraries were encouraged to host events to showcase their love of books. Tinged with a romance theme in honour of novelist Barbara Cartland, Palatine Library hosted a night of fun and games with drinks and nibbles to hand.
To start we completed the ‘Babs Cartland’ quiz asking questions on famous literary love scenes of which the winner received a book of course. Then onto the famous literary couples bingo, followed by a brief history of the romance genre and a reading from the infamous Fifty Shades of Grey.
Helen Bunn librarian at Paletine Library said:
We are always looking for opportunities to get people to the library out of normal opening hours. This was a prefect evening to showcase the library and the romance genre with the national love your libraries day. We have a book club on the first monday of the month 7-8pm and welcome any new members so please feel free to come along or suggest an event you would like to host also.
At the end of the evening we were all given a goody bag that included a romance book, pink candles, love hearts and chocolates so we could continue our love for books back at home. It was definitely a success and enjoyed by all that came!
