Trustee Invite Supports Grand Theatre- community management for vital cultural resource

Blackpool Grand Theatre

Blackpoolโ€™s Grand is seeking new trustees to join the charitable company which operates the theatre. A community campaign saved the Grand from philistine demolition and its management structure continues to reflect this. It’s essential that the theatre retains its place within Blackpool’s cultural fabric and acts as a social hub for all. Local community-based trustees can play a big part in achieving this. Not only does The Grand serve the local community, it gets Blackpool on the national and regional stage, for the right reasons.

Successful applicants will become directors of Blackpool Grand Theatre (Arts and Entertainments) Limited. They will contribute to sustaining one of the UK’s most beautiful heritage theatres, which depends on skilled people for strategic development, support and professional management. The company’s purpose is to advance public education, appreciation and understanding of the arts including design, drama, mime, dance, singing and music.

Blackpoolโ€™s Grand Theatre supports its sister organisation’s charitable work. The Grand Theatre โ€˜family’sโ€™ third member is the Friends of The Grand, a voluntary group supporting the theatre and raising improvement and investment funds for ongoing development. The members work to provide the theatre of choice for Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre, while constituting a nationally significant local resource and cultural leader.

The trustees, have a non-executive role within the companyโ€™s management, also providing specialised knowledge and experience. An independent appointments panel will conduct interviews. Board members of registered charities are not remunerated for their directorial services. Trustees serve for a term of up to four years, usually renewable once. This is an opportunity to join an organisation that is at the heart of Blackpool, making a strong social, cultural and economic contribution. What special skills do you have that might be brought to bear?

I have worked in the housing and transport professions for several local authorities, specialising in policy, strategy preparation and bid writing. Having always had an interest in film, the visual arts in general, theatre, music and lterature, I thought it would be good to combine the writing experience with these interests to contribute to altBlackpool. In addition to writing, my hobbies include watercolour and pastel painting, photography, woodwork, cycling and vegetable gardening.
