At altBlackpool we love Blackpool icons, and the the Mighty Wurlitzers are right up there. For organ afficionados there are a couple of events this weekend at the Winter Gardens.
The first event is a in the Empress Ballroom on Saturday the 8th of September. Dance organists Cameron Lloyd and David Lobban will be at the newly installed Empress Ballroom Wurlitzer. This is the first Saturday night dance in the Empress Ballroom to a Wurlitzer since 1969. It promises to be an evening of mixed ballroom, sequence and latin dance in the magnificent Empress Ballroom.
This event is raising money for the 140th Winter Gardens Anniversary Fund. Donations to the 140th fund will be used for a range of schemes. These include the continued restoration of the venue and to supplement schemes and events aimed at engaging and increasing access to the venue and its many events for hard to reach communities and under privileged societies across the Fylde Coast.
The second event is a concert with organist Howard Beaumont in the Opera House on Sunday the 9th of September at 2pm. Howard is an international recording and concert organist originally from Halifax, Yorkshire. Howard learned the art of demonstrating organs during the late 1960s. He has previously been seen in Blackpool performing on the Blackpool Tower Wurlitzer.
