Jasper Comes To Grand

Classic comedian Jasper Carrott will bring a special show blending stand up hilarity with rock music to our own Grand Theatre on the 1st April 2019.

Jasper was one of the first comedians that I really got to like, after Morecambe and Wise of course, when my uncle played us the then risque Magic Roundabout skit. Jasper later got hold of things tenants had written complaining, including ‘I’ve had seven men this week and I’m still not satisfied’, which was said to us several times when I worked in housing. This is a man with a keen eye and ear for the absurdities of every day life. I still remember sketches from his Carrott Confidential TV shows, noting they were screened in the late 80s.

Now Jasper Carrott OBE is back in Blackpool and brings us a new stand up show, blended with a rock music spectacular featuring his musical compatriots who are well versed in ‘rockin’ audiences all over the world. These include Bev Bevan, founding member of The Move and ELO and his magnificent band, together with Geoff Turton from the Rockin’ Berries and introducing Suzi Woo.

It may be a cliche but this has every appearance of being a one-off opportunity to see something really unique. Classy songs and finely-honed comedy: what could be better?

During his career Jasper has won BBC TV Personality of the Year, a Gold Medal at the New York TV and Film Awards, Midlander of the Year Award, his own ‘Star’ on Birmingham’s Walk of Stars and the British Comedy Awards Lifetime Achievement Award in 2008. For his charity work Jasper was awarded his OBE in Her Majesty’s 2003 New Year’s Honours List. What’s more, his daughter played Haley Tucker in The Archers for many years and that’s got to be worth a lot.

I have worked in the housing and transport professions for several local authorities, specialising in policy, strategy preparation and bid writing. Having always had an interest in film, the visual arts in general, theatre, music and lterature, I thought it would be good to combine the writing experience with these interests to contribute to altBlackpool. In addition to writing, my hobbies include watercolour and pastel painting, photography, woodwork, cycling and vegetable gardening.
