You might remember altblackpool sharing a rumour about an Eye for Blackpool on 12 March. Altblackpool is equally excited to be sharing confirmation that planning permission has been granted for the aptly named Wheels Entertainment Ltd to construct a ‘transportable observation wheel’ on the South Pier Headland. Further scrutiny of the planning documents reveal these key facts:
- The wheel will stand at 61.43AOD (above ordnance datum)
- It has temporary planning permission until November 2018
- It will be open from 10am to midnight, seven days per week
- The project will create a total of 20 full time equivalent jobs
- The wheel and cabins will be lit with LEDs and uplighting in the evenings
- It will face East to West, allowing it to be viewed from North and South promenade without causing an obstruction to sea views from the land
- Disabled access to the cabins is incorporated in the design
- It will boast 42 glass sided, air-conditioned observation capsules
Look out for this new addition to the Blackpool skyline this summer. More details, including how you can get involved with the launch of the new attraction, to follow.
