Anchor Lane are one of the hottest and hardest working new rock bands to come from Scotland. Having written and recorded their sophomore album ‘Call This A Reality’ in preparation for release on 27th January 2023, the three piece have been spending the year getting back to playing in front of the crowds at the likes of Download Festival, Call of The Wild and three UK wide tours. Now they are heading out to some new towns with a mixture of their own headline and support shows with The Virginmarys. They caught up with Blackpool Social Club ahead of their live set at The Waterloo Music Bar on 12th October.
What inspires your music and songwriting?
The things we all go through/experience that affect us enough to write songs about them. Our songs are an accumulation of our life experiences and outlook on the world overall.
How did the pandemic impact your music and how does it feel to be back on the road?
Although not about the pandemic itself, the writing for our new album Call This a Reality was inspired by the hardships we all faced during this time, so it actually worked quite well as a songwriter’s tool. We’ve had our longest run of tour dates in a calendar year ever for the band, which really helped us develop and refine our style and performances so we are thrilled to be back on the road doing what we do best!
What are you up to at the moment artistically?
We are currently neck deep in the pre-release campaign for our upcoming album, Call This a Reality which is available to pre-order now from our websiteanchorlanemusic.com 🙂
Tell us your most embarrassing or surreal experience.
Playing Download festival to a packed-out Dogtooth Stage has to be right up there in our most surreal moments! We’ve all dreamed of being a part of what happens at Donington, and the band has been fortunate enough to play it twice!
If you weren’t a musician what would you be doing with your life?
We’d be farmers, men outstanding in their field.
What’s on your rider?
In an ideal world, sandwiches that don’t contain mayonnaise. Unfortunately, we do not live in an ideal world. Call this a Reality?
What song do you wish you’d written?
Happy Birthday or the Thomas the Tank Engine theme song, for obvious reasons.
What’s your worst lyric?
My lifestyle, determines my deathstyle.
Are you looking forward to playing Blackpool and what else would you like to check out while you’re here?
Of course we are! We saw a horse and carriage on our last visit so that would be nice. Or the Pepsi Max.
What can we expect from your live show?
You can expect to find relentless, hard-hitting energy, shite shirts, and the three best friends that anybody could have.
