Staging Mr Scruff is a huge coup for Blackpool. As an established recording artist and producer, he has worked alongside a number of high profile musicians and labels such as Mark Rae and the notable label Ninja Tune. His influences are a mix of blues, soul, hip hop, funk and jazz. With his own artwork and projections that accompany his music, his illustrations are sure to appeal to all the children that will be in attendance. A lover of tea, he is known as the DJ who likes a good cuppa and he operates his own fair trade tea company. More information is available on his website.
Mr Scruff has toured with the likes of Roots Manuva, The Herbaliser, Dynamic Syncopation and Mixmaster Morris. This event is one not to be missed. All the supporting acts are fabulous too. Aim has worked as a remixer, mixing songs for a variety of artists including Ian Brown, Saint Etienne, The Charlatans, Lil’ Kim, Thunderbugs, Archive, Down to the Bone, Texas and former label-mates Rae & Christian, as well as touring solely as a DJ.
Flash Atkins makes deep tech-soul music for We Are Woodville and Paper Recordings. He has releases featuring 70s crooner Caspa Codina, disco diva Kathy Diamond, Japanese songstress Leilani, lady’s man George Demure, Crazy P’s Danielle Moore and LA rapper Sean Reveron. Galaxians combine elements of classic New York boogie, early 80s electro and synth-funk while 2Billion Beats and Martin Brew provide filmic quality soundtracks which will get the most descerning music lover listening with fully engaged lugholes.
A variety of alternative and visual artists will also be on hand throughout the day including Fresh Drive Recordings alongside Speak to The Streets and B Boy Breakdance battles – which will be a visual delight. Blackpool’s own Yappers Chappers Designs will be in attendance with her jewelled delights. Other local artists include Infected By Design, Danzig Graphics, Marc Atherton, Mos Shaw, Nme Urban Art Òó, Helen Williams, Johnman Spraycan and Azz Youlikeit in a day that will celebrate art just as much as music .
