Halloween will be a frightful affair this year with local arts organisation Aunty Social bringing you a double bill of classic horror films at their Halloween Screen in the beautiful surroundings of Blackpool Winter Gardens Pavilion. This will be a rare opportunity to see Nosferatu and Frankenstein on the big screen and in an atmospheric venue right in the heart of Blackpool.
Nosferatu was released in 1922, directed by F.W. Murnau and is based on the Dracula novel. Real estate agent Hutter is dispatched to Transylvania to assist Count Orlok in the purchase of a new residence but mysterious and spooky events occur bringing Hutter’s wife into jeopardy.
Frankenstein in another classic and was released in 1931, directed by James Whale. It follows the story of obsessed scientist Henry Frankenstein and his quest to reanimate the dead. After experimenting on small animals, Frankenstein is ready to bring his human corpse back from the head but the creature escapes with frightful consequences.
Refreshments will be available throughout the evening from the bar inside the Winter Gardens and with tickets costing just £7 each for this classic horror double bill, it’s the perfect start to your Halloween festivities. All proceeds from the screening will be split between The Winter Gardens Trust and Aunty Social.
As well as the film screening everyone is encouraged to dress up in their spookiest of costumes and a prize will be on offer for the best costume on the night. After the screenings have finished The Winter Gardens will also be offering torchlit tours of this fantastic Blackpool landmark – an opportunity not to be missed for those who haven’t seen all that the building has to offer.
