Last week I joined a number of local entrepreneurs to photograph and help stage a fashion shoot which had been created to inspire, promote and bring together a number of like minded individuals. We began in Susie Q’s Photography Studio based just outside of Preston and ended up on an amazing location shoot at Beacon Hill Forest.  The person behind the organisation was Danielle Chapelle of Yappers Chappers Designs.  I caught up with her to find out more:

Tell me about Yappers Chappers Designs and your latest project.

Yappers Chappers Designs is a Lancashire-based business that creates unique, handmade nickel-free jewellery, made by me, Danielle Chappell. There are a number of collections within YCD such as the Twisted Elegance range, Vintage Quirk and Stitch n Sew. Our nickel-free jewellery is understated with brightly coloured statement pieces and dainty elegant items with sophisticated twists, as well as quirky and vintage styled themes. I met Lorna from TrendyAs Boutique at the International Women’s Day in Blackpool and seeing her sophisticated and elegant dresses, I had to get her on board.

My idea was to do a collaboration photo-shoot promoting my Twisted Elegance collection. I knew the collaboration would marry well for both our businesses and products, because we are both new businesses and have a similar drive to take our work to the next level, developing our websites and increasing awareness of the excellent customer service we offer. This lead to an invitation to get on board professional established photographers and make-up artists. The day was inspiring and ideas were developed with the models.  Eeveryone’s professionalism on the day contributed to the success of the shoot.

The idea of having two photographers at the photo-shoot created amazing results as we were able to see both sides of the shoot to give the viewer an idea of what goes on in a photo-shoot, complementing the final images. I am so pleased that the idea worked well and everything pieced together and flowed well on the day.

Susie Q Photography was lead photographer and altblackpool’s very own Claire Griffiths was shooting the behind the scenes shots.

Who was involved in the shoot and what are their back grounds?

TrendyAs Boutique – Fashion and accessories. This is for ladies looking for something exclusive and on trend, not on the high street. North West entrepreneur Lorna has two businesses and has taken a spot at Botany Bay to move her TrendyAs Boutique business forward.

Susie Q Photography – A new Preston-based photography studio. Its premises are multifunctional: they serve events, products, family portraits and fashion photography. Susie’s professional photography has already allowed her to shoot famous celebrities and visit a number of exclusive events throughout Lancashire and beyond.

Brooke Wylie – A freelance professional make-up artist.  She often works with Susie and she joined us to work with our models on the day. Her background includes work with the BBC and a variety of media-based projects. Brooke created hair and make-up for Cara Stevens, a local alternative model and she owns her own established business, Personal Training with Cara Stevens. Brooke also created the hair and make-up on alternative model Ann Purkis.

Our final members of the team was Safira Ismail a professional make-up artist, experienced in a number of shoots. She created the hair and make-up for model, Miss Preston, Ivy Kusaloka. Ivy starts university this year doing Physiotherapy and Sports Science. Ivy is in the finals for Miss North West in May.

What influences you and what motivated you to bring this project together?

I am an excited three months pregnant and eager to get my website finally finished in preparation for the new Baby Chappers’ arrival. So I am getting motivated to get the ball rolling and getting a range of styles and images together ready for the final touches for the ecommerce shop website!

What are your plans for the next three months?

Over the next few months at Yappers Chappers Designs you will be seeing a variety of styled and location-based fashion shoots (business collaborations) capturing beauty in a natural state and a variety of compositions with my handmade jewellery pieces. I will be incorporating  models that are all shapes, ages and sizes. I want to create a wide range of styles to show that the jewellery can be worn and is accessible for anyone of any age and any style at any time. Yappers Chappers Designs are created for individuals seeking that treasured, handmade unique piece.
