Friends to the fore as St Anne’s plans Festival

It isn’t until July, but already plans are well under way for the 2014 St Anne’s Festival. This year, it will be run by a committee called the Friends of St Anne’s Arts, and the town council has donated £1,000 to the cause.
But the Friends need a lot more cash if they are to create the festival of their dreams from 19 to 27 July, so fundraising is a priority.  A few donations have already been made, and organisers are seeking sponsorship from local businesses as well as applying for grants.
As part of the fundraising initiative, the Jubilee String Quartet, who did a concert last year, are coming back to perform in June, prior to the festival. They are also booked to appear at a ticket-only event at Ashton Pavilion on 26 July.
During the festival, local bands will be playing on the bandstand, in Ashton Gardens, and in various pubs and restaurants.  Galleries will display art and photography and there will be workshops plus a craft fair on Saturday 19 July – but watch this space, as more events are being added every week.
For the first time, the arts event will coincide with the St Anne’s Kite Festival for the weekend of 26 and 27 July and, if successful, it is hoped the events will combine every year.
“We are looking forward to this year’s festival and will be using it as a stepping stone to even bigger and better things next year,” said Town Councillor Barbara Mackenzie.
If you want to take part in the festival, offer sponsorship or get involved as a helper, contact Friends of St Anne’s Arts on 01253 711584 or email [email protected].
