A riot of colour and queer expression is unleashed as Flamboyant Flamingos gather at Grundy for a major solo exhibition of newly commissioned work by acclaimed, Blackpool-based artist, Garth Gratrix. Flamboyant Flamingos is Gratrix’s largest and most prestigious exhibition to date. It is also the first time in recent history that a Blackpool born and Blackpool based artist has been invited to exhibit in Grundy’s much coveted summer season slot.
Alongside this, Gratrix has collaborated with the Grundy to bring the iconic film ‘Blue’ (1993) by the world-renowned artist Derek Jarman (1942 – 1994) to the gallery, and in addition, has worked with the Grundy on a Collection Spotlight display combining selected works from the Grundy Art Gallery collection with work on loan from Scarborough Museums & Galleries.
Garth Gratrix, a contemporary visual artist at the forefront of nuanced queer expression, unveils a new light commission for multi-art form festival Queer Amusements. Set to illuminate the exterior of the Grundy Art Gallery as part of his upcoming major solo exhibition this summer titled Flamboyant Flamingos, commissioned by the Grundy Art Gallery.
