Exhibition Review: Anjinese and J. Paul Wright at Tea Amantes

Exhibition Review: Anjinese and J. Paul Wright at Tea Amantes

It's the first Monday of the month, which means it must be a new exhibition at the Tea Amantes cafe and gallery. Once more abandoning the family to their own devices, I take the service 3 bus to town and walk down Albert Road to the already bustling space. I fail to make it through the door before Anna Paprzycka, who runs these exhibitions, photographs me stood next to photographer Kate Yates. This gives me time to set up my little digital camera with its filter and lens hood. This is the first dual exhibition at Tea Amantes and the…

Exhibition: Sandra Openshaw at Tea Amantes

The calendar ticks round and a new exhibition is on at the Tea Amantes gallery. With pizza inside I take the usual service 3 bus down to Albert Road where there's a substantial and lively crowd viewing the pieces. I am just through the door and Anna introduces me to Sandra. Openshaw describes herself as a self-taught artist from Doncaster, South Yorkshire who used her art as therapy during the lockdown periods. She prefers a realistic view rather than an abstract opinion. Together with her animal drawings, she now also draws people in black and white, giving a timeless feel…

Exhibition: Emilia Zogo – Blackpool in black & white

The exhibition may be titled Blackpool in Black and White but Emilia Logo has in fact photographed a number of other places to assemble this very fine solo photographic exhibition currently on show at Tea Amantes, Albert Road, Blackpool. The room was quite full on my arrival and got busier through the evening. Enlarged and framed to a good size, these photographs are perfectly composed and grab attention straight away. Some were of the now closed Bonny Street market, being dismantled at the time of writing and are therefore now a historical record. More images were presented on a video…

Exhibition: Acrylic Wonders by Peter Hughes

Exhibition: Acrylic Wonders by Peter Hughes

Monday 5th December, 2022 saw me brave the cold and take the service 3 bus to the ever welcoming Tea Amantes gallery for the latest in its art exhibition series, this time featuring Dr Peter Hughes who has produced a large body of work during the recent pandemic, its lock downs and the recent summer of 2022. The work is self-described as modern art influenced by Milton's poem Paradise Lost, the mythic symbolism of the tree of life and the tree of knowledge featuring heavily. I would agree that these are thought provoking, colourful and moving images. It was particularly…

Exhibition Review: artworks by Robin Ross

Exhibition Review: artworks by Robin Ross

Once more (dear friends) unto the service 3 bus to the Tea Amantes gallery and tea room for the opening of another exhibition – this time Robin Ross's exhibition of screen prints. A lively crowd was already in situ when I arrived – in this lively tea room on the outskirts of the town centre, Blackpool's strong arts community is evident. To be honest I've never really rated screen printing – partly due to our school art teacher thinking he was the next Andy Warhol and forgetting to teach us anything useful, that I can remember, which is why I'm…

‘Stagefright’ – Dawn Mander’s exhibition wows at Tea Amantes venue

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] Once more on the service 3 bus to Tea Amantes to view local hero snapper, Dawn Mander’s, excellent street photography based exhibition. On my arrival the place was already buzzing, full of the great and good of Blackpool creative society and others from as far afield as Leeds and Bedford. It was rather bizarre to see photographers taking photographs of photographs (including me), but so it was. Dawn seems to have a reputation for keeping out of the limelight, but with this quality of work, the question is why? She says of her photographs:[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text css=".vc_custom_1659864185019{padding-top: 10px !important;padding-right: 10px !important;padding-bottom:…

Art review: Radek Marszalik at Tea Amantes

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] The Tea Amantes team has brought us another fine exhibition, this time featuring the work of Polish artist, Radek Marszalik. [/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width="2/3"][vc_column_text]I bussed it down to Albert Road to catch the opening event. The place soon filled with Blackpool and the Fylde's creatives and friends and the evening turned into quality social time. This work is of incredible detail and clearly requires great technical skill to put it together. There is good colour use and then contrast with stark yet intricate monochrome images. Radek says: "I adore creating with oil paints, graphite, colour pencils and other mediums, which allow…

Anna Ravliuc-Bloomfield presents her stunning art exhibition ‘Distance of Transformation’

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] This will not be an easy review to write, because the stunning beauty of Anna Ravliuc-Bloomfield's work cannot be encapsulated in words. Anna's is probably the most impressive art exhibition I have ever seen, and it's right here in Blackpool, at the Tea Amantes tearoom and gallery on Albert Road. Named Distance of Transformation, everybody at this show's private view (7th April 2022) was a creative and jaws were just hanging down (I now look at my puny efforts with close to shame). The colour palette, brush work, composition and the themes of these paintings are all incredible. Subjects…
