Friday saw the opening of Blackpool’s very own urban art installation in the heart of the town centre. Hosted by NWBaseline in their Victoria Street studio space and featuring local urban artists Catch 22, Danzig, HeDreamtMars, Infected by Design, Lowdown, Robin Ross and TRI; Homegrown truly demonstrated the power of collaboration to bring together a top quality urban art installation right here in Blackpool.
The preview evening saw close to 200 people come down for a sneaky peak at the artwork on display and a chance to buy their own piece to take home. The vibe of the night was relaxed and social with plenty of opportunities for meeting new people and networking with other creatives from around the town and beyond, plus a bass filled soundtrack from DJs Forthkind, Relic, Beach Club, Chris Leahy and Rob Draper.
We spoke to Robin Ross to find out how he felt the evening went and he said…
Amazing response to HomeGrown, all folks pulling, shoving and working together. We can move mountains and change just about anything… attitudes to art are looking up… especially in Blackpool!
We also managed to grab HeDreamtMars on the night to get a few words from him about the event which you can watch below…
One of the things which was clear was the broad range of people who attended from teenagers to those on the other end of the age spectrum, together, interacting and enjoying the art and the evening as a whole. No longer do the residents of Blackpool need to travel to Manchester to enjoy an evening of this kind – without a doubt Homegrown has proved that there is an appetite in Blackpool for this kind of fresh, collaborative art installation and we can’t wait until the next edition.
