Blackpool Library Service launched their Summer Reading Challenge yesterday with help from pupils from Thames Primary Schools and local storyteller Dan Worsley.
The Summer Reading Challenge is an annual national reading campaign running in libraries across the UK for 4-11 year olds. This years theme is Record Breakers, and what better way to celebrate the launch than with Dan Worsley previewing his latest story about a record breaking swimmer in front of the UK’s largest Mirror Ball, They Shoot Horses, Don’t They?, on Blackpool Promenade.
It’s really easy for young people to take part in the Summer Reading Challenge. Children sign up at their local library and receive a Record Breakers poster to get them started; then they just need to read six library books of their own choice during the summer and they receive prizes along the way. Taking part is completely free.
Young people can log their progress on the Record Breakers website, full of activities for children and families, including a new-look Book Sorter where children can share book recommendations, competitions, and all you need to know about the Challenge.
Blackpool Library Service are hosting a series of Record Breaking themed fun activities this summer too, with the Record Breaking Creepy Crawly Road Show and Record Breaking Family Fun Challenge at libraries across Blackpool.

There is also a special See&Do session called Disco Drawing in partnership with Grundy Art Gallery on Saturday 25th July, 10.30-12pm. Book directly via Grundy Art Gallery.
You can register for the Summer Reading Challenge 2015 at any Blackpool Library from Saturday 11th July.
