Brightest Night of the Year Arrives Tomorrow

The Vamps at Switch On 2015

It’s almost that time of year again. The time when the twinkling lights of Blackpool shine out across the town for a spectacular 65 nights. That’s right, tomorrow sees the start of ‘The Lights’ and what better way to commence the Illuminations season than with the fantastic Big Switch On party? So, read on and find out everything you need to know about Blackpool’s biggest night of the year.

This year’s Big Switch On will be held on the Tower Festival Headland tomorrow evening and as usual there will be a star studded line-up during the hours leading up to this eagerly anticipated event. For the first time the Switch On is being created in association with Nickelodeon and Club MTV so its sure to be a spectacular show.

Who’s on the bill?

The show will be directed by none other than Ashely Banjo, choreographer and leader of Britain’s Got Talent winners Diversity. In his role, Ashley will be responsible for the curation of a special performance leading up to the switch on of this year’s Illuminations.

In addition to a bespoke set from Diversity, and after rocking last year’s Switch On party, The Vamps are back to wow audiences from near and far once again.

Also on the bill is X Factor songstress Fleur East who shot to fame with her performance of Mark Ronson’s Uptown Funk, finishing runner up on the show. Since then she’s released her debut album and hit single Sax.

American hip-hop star Fatman Scoop is also set to perform. Best known for his gravelly vocals which featured on Crooklyn Clan’s UK number one Be Faithful, he is also a promoter and radio personality in high own right in the US.

Warming up the cloud will be a special Blackpool Introducing section featuring some of the very best local talent. Verity Kinnon, James Edgar, Axi Wild and Stacey McClean, formally of S Club 8, will all appear on the night.

A cloud of mystery always surrounds who the actual star performing the switch on will be until near to the event. Well the news is out and this year it’s none other than Barbara Windsor aka Peggy ‘Get outta my pub’ Mitchell. What a carry on.


Finally DJ Fresh and singer Imani are set to round off the Switch On night and keep everybody dancing until its time to go home. DJ Fresh has racked up over 2.5 million record sales while Imani is rapidly rising to fame having featured on Sigala’s Say You Do earlier in the year.

What you need to know

Gates open for the Switch On concert at 4pm and the music starts at 5pm. The actual Switch On will take place sometime between 8.45pm and 9pm and will be followed by a DJ set until 10pm.

At the moment the weather forecast looks like things are going to be fine but this is Blackpool so its always advised to wrap up warm and take a water proof.
