Grundy Film Club Returns

Basim Madgy

There’s been a lot going on at The Grundy recently, including the acclaimed Neon exhibition and now the ever-popular show of local residents’ work. What some altBlackpool readers may have missed is the return of the film club, supported by the Institute of Contemporary Arts. The next instalment is this coming Monday and features the work of Basim Magdy.

The series got underway on 13 February with three short films by award winning cinematographer Ben Rivers. Like all Grundy film events this was compered by artist and filmmaker Chris Paul Daniels. Chris always gives enthusiastic and extremely knowledgeable introductions at these events, indeed it is a shame he can’t talk for longer as his love of his subjects is infectious.

Returning to the upcoming event Basim Magdy is a multidisciplinary artist and filmmaker living in Basel and Cairo. His varied artistic practice encompasses film, photography, installation, slide projection and works of paper. Magdy’s work reflects upon how we deal with the present social and economic climate in a pragmatic and humanistic way. He provides an innovative narration of his own personal experiences and frank observations while evaluating the political histories of his nation.

The film events start at 5.30 and usually finish around or just after 7pm. To book on this Monday’s screening register here.
