As a proud childhoood owner of David Nixon’s magic book, I’ve always enjoyed a good magic show. This doesn’t mean I could get the tricks to actually work. So it’s good to read that the Blackpool Magicians’ Club will be holding its world renowned magic convention in our resort for at least a further five years, up to 2022.
Celebrating its 75th year in 2017, the club is recognised as one of the most formidable around. Held in February, its convention attracts 3,500 international performers and delegates and is worth an estimated £1m to the Blackpool economy. It’s a Guinness record holder as the world’s biggest magic show.
Alan Horne, Public Relations Officer at Blackpool Magicians’ Club Ltd, said:
The club is delighted with the new agreement to continue at the Winter Gardens for the next five years. It also welcomes Visit Blackpool’s support in continuing to stage this prestigious event in the town. From this year for the first time, the general public and local residents can see the world class gala shows, experiences not to be missed.
Cllr Gillian Campbell, Deputy Leader of Blackpool Council, said:
This is fantastic news for Blackpool: we are delighted the Magicians’ Convention has been secured, providing a welcome economic boost at a time of the year when most seaside resorts are quiet. Instead this proves that Blackpool is open for business all year round.
The magnificent Winter Gardens with its variety of performance areas, exhibition space and on-site catering is the ideal venue for an entertainment form that dates back to the music hall era and well beyond. Its location also makes all town centre amenities and retail available just outside the venue doors. The Winter Gardens is ideally situated for all public transport access, including coach parties, and there is car parking nearby.
The Magicians’ Convention will be a stunning event and one not to be missed by locals and visitors. The 2018 event is on 16-17-18 February and all details can be found at www.blackpoolmagic.com
