Well Blackpool is the place to be entertained but what do you do when you live here? Take advantage of the entertainment or look for the alternative. Blackpool Libraries offer a whole host of free and inexpensive sessions and this summer you can check out all manner of excitingly titled events such as Mischief Makers or perhaps you feel tempted by Mama G a story telling drag artist. The libraries activity’s are so “jam packed” this summerย you are spoiled for choice. Blackpool’s promenade is expansive and if you own a bike, a skateboard or a scooter get moving, or grab your comfiest shoes if wheels are not your thing to enjoy miles and miles of promenade, sand and donkeys and not one but three wooden Victorian piers make for an amazing walk. Hunt for seashells or pop your coppers in the 2p slots as you meander up and down our vast seafront, drinking in The Comedy Carpetย Created by artist Gordon Young Sited in front of Blackpool Tower, theย art piece contains over 160,000 granite letters embedded into concrete, pushing the boundaries of public art and typography to their limits.
Next up The Grundy Art Gallery seasons of Circus 250 inspired exhibition has an exceptionally child friendly angle including clowns, performance and Blackpool heritage. Adults will enjoy archived paraphernalia and “backstage” images of Blackpool, entrance is free and notable work includes Peter Blake and photography from acclaimed back stage circus photographer Peter Laveryย https://www.grundyartgallery.com/programme/current/
If green spaces are more your thing. Blackpool’s award winning Stanley park has a regular outdoor concerts and a vintage car show scheduled during August. Keep your eyes on Shaw’s Coffee Bar and The Urban Art Space in St Annes for a mix of painting, visual art and performance. Both sites show a great mix of local and international based artists. Don’t forget that this weekend Blackpool will be inundated with amazing Punks thanks to the long running Rebellion Festival. If you want a free show and to experience Blackpool in its full vibrant self, pop into town to catch droves of rockabillies, skinheads and ska fans roving around the town giving Blackpool a delightful busy and bustling atmosphere. With PIL and The Buzzcocks confirmed for 2018 – residents will be able to hear the melodic tones of “Ever Fallen in Love” drifting across rooftops and promenades.
