Just over a week until Christmas, are you still fretting over what to buy for a friend or relative?
Today’s suggestions are for Print lovers aka The Fresh Prints
This art lover is not a fan of bare walls. Whether their house is Scandi-minimal or packed with antiques and keepsakes, they’re always looking for that special print to add to their collection. Here are some local shopping suggestions for someone who is working on a gallery of their own.
Abingdon Studios
Looking for a print with purpose?
Abingdon Studios’ artist in residence Charlotte Dawson has created a series of limited edition prints to help raise money for Blackpool Food Bank and At the Grange Community Centre. Proceeds will provide much needed free meals for some of the poorest young people in the country – who happen to be right on our doorstep.
Each print is £40 and there are 5 designs to choose from. Make sure that you get your order in quick because the crowdfunding closes 20 December 2020 and there are only 10 copies of each print available to buy. Prints are on 300gsm paper with a soft touch laminate finish and the work is inspired by the artist’s time in Blackpool and a collection of plate sculptures being made currently for a larger scale installation (to be exhibited at Abingdon Studios in 2021).
So for a truly ‘feel-good’ gift, head over to the crowdfunder page and place your order.
Abingdon Studios has been running for 7 years as an artist-led community within a studio and project space in Blackpool. Part of the public programme includes Work/Leisure– a residency programme aimed to support emerging artists to develop new work in response to Blackpool.

Robin Ross
From his base at the Old Rock Factory in Blackpool Town centre, Robin has kept busy through lockdown expanding his portfolio, experimenting with and refining printing techniques. You might recognise Robin from the telly, (he was a winner on the BBC TV series, Home Is Where The Art Is) or from various art events at Hive on Church Street. If you’re looking for a gift with bags of personality (like the artist) look no further.
Let’s talk prints; Robin creates a range of original and vintage images, given striking twists by playing with exposure, different paper media and a variety of finishes. You can clearly see the international influences in his work, from the brutalist architecture of Reykjavik to the vibrant brights of Havana. The gritty darkness of industrial Colne to the art deco zing of Miami.
Robin has a wide range of limited edition hand pulled screen print prints on 300gsm Somerset paper and wood available from Hive, which is open every day from 9am to 5pm. If you purchase before Christmas, you’ll also get a free mince pie… How about that for an offer you can’t refuse? Prices start at about £15 and delivery or collection is available. Do hurry if you need anything posting as it’s getting close to final posting dates.
You can browse and buy many of Robin’s prints on his website. If you’d like to visit Robin’s studio to view his extensive range of work, just send send him an email to arrange.

The Seaside Emporium
Heard of Visit Fylde Coast? Well, the Seaside Emporium is their online shop. Run by creative business The Rabbit Patch Ltd, they design and make lovely paintings, photos and gifts, all with a spot of Fylde Coast inspiration and charm.
Derek Littlewood is the artist behind Seaside Emporium’s products. He draws, paints, photographs, designs and creates – what an all rounder! Derek has a keen eye for capturing the iconic elements that make a piece undeniably Blackpool (or St Annes, Fleetwood, Lytham, Cleveleys!). We love these graphic prints; they’re really bold and would definitely make a statement in any space. They’re a perfect gift for somebody who is a proud local or a Sandgrown un who misses home.
Take a look at the Seaside Emporium website, where you’ll find a range of Fylde Coast themed prints starting from £8. If you have any questions, do drop them a line on social media, they are very prompt with replies. We also recommend taking a look at the Facebook page where you can see regular updates on Christmas stock.
If you live on the Fylde Coast you’ve still got time to order a special gift. Seaside Emporium is based in Cleveleys and welcome local collections. Just get in touch to arrange.
