Our Jill was down at the Golden Eagle on Thursday night for the Blackpool Music Festival where The Sonic Jam Project were entertaining the locals and music fans from across the coast.  Jill was so impressed with all the acts she saw at the Blackpool Music Festival that she couldn't take her finger off the trigger.  If you were there, you'll no doubt understand.  Keep your eye on altBlackpool for more of Jill's band galleries, including Lithium Glass Road, Solid States and Flossie, throughout the week.   Images by Jill Reidy of Two Old Birds Photography

Gallery: St Annes Kite Festival

This year's Kite Festival at St Annes took place over the weekend and it was another crowd-pleaser.  As well as the usual array of flying animals, including an octopus, flying cows, dogs and hippos, visitors were treated to the new addition, Oscar - the world's biggest teddy bear!  There was a teddy bear parachute drop, sponosred by Storytellers Inc book shop, and a sandcastle building competition.  Live music was provided by World Wise Samba and the event was exactly the sort of head-turning spectacle that draws the crowds year on year.  Jill Reidy, of Two Old Birds With Cameras, was…

Promenart

When Aishley Docherty happened to bump into Melanie Whitehead at a Leftcoast gathering, neither could have predicted that the chance meeting would very quickly lead to a collaboration between the two, and the pooling of creative ideas to come up with an exciting new event in Blackpool. The result, supported by Leftcoast, is Promenart - a pop-up theatre for young adults aged 13 plus. Aishley and Melanie, who are managing and running the event, have a wealth of experience in drama, dance and theatre production, and are well qualified to make a success of the project. Both graduated from the…

South Shore painting party brightens car park

The annual Sand, Sea and Spray event might have been cancelled this year, but there was certainly no absence of paint, in all its forms, when the 2 Old Birds hotfooted it straight from the Gay Pride Parade down to Palatine Road car park on Saturday afternoon. What met us was a hive of creative activity, as artists worked steadily on the walls surrounding the area. The variety of work being created was a credit to the group, from a whole wall of carefully written thoughts from Samantha Jayne Simpson to a huge, rather scary blue baby by Chris Fenn.…

Sam Bell introduces Wingz Theatre Works

Meeting Sam Bell again and seeing her in her natural environment - a vast space with mirrors and curved walls, music and chattering children - it was obvious that she's inspired about her new venture, Wingz Theatre Works. Whilst the children continued to jump and spin and throw themselves high in the air, Sam told me about the arrangements. "I run the urban dance and talent agency side," she said, one practised eye on the dancing children, "and Danielle Slater runs the acting classes." Sam explained that Danielle is a casting assistant in Manchester, currently working with Emma Stafford, who…
