The event will take place on Friday 27th March at 6.30 - 8.00pm at The LivingWell Health Club, Hilton. The class, taught by Angela Ross of Yoga Blackpool, will begin with a 45 minute Yang practice. Festival Feel Good

Festival Feel Good

This weekend, Lytham will host a festival promoting well-being and alternative therapies. It's an unusual approach to feeling good but I am all for ways to improve quality of life (although travel and chocolate are my preferences). I quite like angel card readings and although very girlie, the idea of suggestion, visualisation and positive affirmations sit comfortably with me. The Fylde Feel Good Festival, based at Lytham Cricket Club on 20 to 22 March, marks the Angel Lounge's first anniversary. The centre practices reiki, crystal and angel meditations and is run by a husband and wife team with backgrounds in theology,…

Review: A Mad World My Masters

Review: A Mad World My Masters

What a treat - the Royal Shakespeare Company at Blackpool GrandTheatre! After a quirky promotional event a couple of weeks ago at Starbucks, I was looking forward to this jazz-infused production. The theatre was jammed and there was an excited buzz in the air. We entered the theatre to a fully lit stage, a jazz band playing centrally, elevated on the stage, and a beautiful blonde sitting to the right on the stage and smoking (yes, smoking!) and chatting to the audience.  All of a sudden there was a kerfuffle as we were set upon from all entrances of the…

A Grand Coffee and Starbucks Sunday Jazz

A Grand Coffee and Starbucks Sunday Jazz

Arriving early and thinking how lucky I was to be photographing and drinking quality coffee at the same time, I attended the pre-launch event for the the first ever collaboration between the Royal Shakespeare Company and English Touring Theatre in the production of A Mad World My Masters which will be on in March at the Grand Theatre. The pre-launch session, with another to come on Sunday 1 March, was a warm up for what is to come in the production. Last Sunday, Bobby (guitar and vocals) and Jemima (vocals and harmonica) played along with Gabor Jonas (saxophonist), putting their own unique twist…

High Flying Birds

High Flying Birds

Have you heard about the bird? The bird, the bird is the word! So goes the sixties song by The Fut.  In this case, we bring you not music but photography from the Two Old Birds with Cameras. Jill and Dawn, whose images are drawing attention across the country, have turned their passion for photography towards a subject matter that sometimes stays in the closet. Inspired by 2014's LBGT exhibition at the Winter Gardens, curated by Garth Gratrix, these images portray a much more intimate content as the pair investigate inclusivity and community perceptions. Jill and Dawn have photographed a…

On Thursday 22 January excited visual artists took the opportunity to take part in a unique photographic session with Sean Conboy at the 120-year-old Blackpool Grand Theatre. Solaris Centre shines with Jill Reidy and Chris Beard Photography Exhibition

Solaris Centre shines with Jill Reidy and Chris Beard Photography Exhibition

This month we saw the start of a new exhibition based in South Shore at the Solaris Centre. I spoke to the photographers exhibiting, Chris Beard and Jill Reidy, to find out more: How did the two of you come together to exhibit at this particular site? Chris: We didn't 'come together' as such to put up the exhibition, the fact that we are both exhibiting at the same time is purely down to chance. I asked the staff at Solaris about the possibility of exhibiting some of my images and the earliest available date were November and December. It was…

Hug in a Bag Charity Fundraiser

Hug in a Bag Charity Fundraiser

This Saturday at the Hilton Hotel there is a very special event with an amazing story and ethos surrounding it. I met up with the organisers to find out more. Deborah Marr and friend Jacqueline Rhodes  are the ladies behind Hug in A Bag. Deborah had previously heard from a close friend in Sunderland who at that time had been diagnosed with breast cancer and received something called a Hug in Bag. She spoke of how the token of receiving something so thoughtful had became a really important thing, lifting her spirits and re-engaging her. Based on Deborah's  friend's experience, she wanted to do the same for…
