Easter Sunday at The Blue Room

Easter Sunday at The Blue Room

On Easter Sunday I went along to The Blue Room with another photographer from altblackpool (pictures to follow). We were lucky enough to watch quite a show, starting with Leoni Jane Kennedy who, at such a tender age, really belts out a tune. Leoni's set was acoustic and her singing voice is strong and melodic. She sang to the crowd without a touch of nerves and lit up the room with her youthful exuberance. Next up were a local band, The Locals (catchy name). Having never seen them before I enjoyed their energy which rubbed off on an Easter egg…

LeftCoast hosts Len Grant at FYCreatives

Last week at FYCreatives, LeftCoast organised their regular event, The Golden Section. These events reach out to local artists and creatives by featuring noted practising artists and providing a platform for their work and a story behind it. They are interesting meetings and free by registering on-line.  FYCreatives is a cool place and you always get provided with a hot drink and a sandwich or two. On this particular occasion, the photographer, Len Grant presented a cross section of his work. I was especially interested to hear from a photographer who has successfully crossed over from quite architectural lead images to…

The BMX UK Vert Series at Ramp City

The BMX UK Vert Series at Ramp City

There are some exciting alternative goings on going down, literally, at Ramp City in Blackpool. I caught up with Woody, who runs Big Woodys Skateboard shop based at Ramp City, to find out more and discover how people can get involved. If you are not aware, Ramp City is usually targeted at skateboarders so the opportunity to use it for BMXs is a good one. Its not just for the riders either, if you enjoy extreme sports you are welcome to go and watch and take in the atmosphere and there is an awesome café just next door to keep your energy…

Tell me all about who you are and what you do. Hi. We are Norman Haslam and Gaz Heckman. We run a radio show called Beat Generation on Cowbell Radio show every Tuesday…

How The People came to be

How The People came to be

There are some amazing aspirational things going on in Blackpool and the local area. Fylde and Wyre are stuffed with talent and through various social tools, individuals can reach out via a number of means to raise their profile and communicate their medium of choice. Through local artists, dancers, and music makers to broadcasters and writers, Blackpool is challenging perception and raising local talent which in turn is pushing energy into our quirky seaside town. Last year I was asked to photograph the under 18s Battle of The Bands at Blackpool Sixth Form College. I wasn't sure what to expect but was bowled over with…
